Background: The Ocean Decade Virtual Series is a series of high-level and scientific interactive virtual dialogues aimed at mobilizing the global ocean community and fostering transformative partnerships and innovative solution-oriented actions to achieve the Decade Outcomes. The session, moderated by Dr. Jaqueline Uku – President, Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association, explored international and national perspectives on gender in relation to science-policy practices and collaboration for a sustainable ocean, as well as approaches to promote advancement of gender equality in the maritime sector.
